“Phenomenal!”

That’s what one teacher exclaimed as we left her school.

This is what a librarian said after a multi-day school and library visit:
"Ruth McNally Barshaw is an entertaining and humorous presenter. She is able to
teach her audiences that their thoughts, words, and pictures have meaning
and are important enough to document. While drawing, the author informs listeners on how to get ideas for writing by drawing first, then using call outs, and finally illustrating a story arc. Using a hands on approach, Mrs. Barshaw keeps students actively engaged by having them doodle along with her. Highly effective!"

I’d love to visit your area!

I’m an energetic speaker, happy to educate and entertain audiences of all ages with on-the-spot sketching. All session content is tailored to the audience -- always. And with Charlie's help, our
presentations are twice as fun.

What to expect:
Academic, practical, fun, audience-targeted presentations, every time. We take seriously what each age group wants or needs from our visit. Most boys and girls leave our sessions excited about creativity and journalling.
Most often our audiences range from age 3 - 14.

One more testimonial:

Quote after a day of school visits
"Ruth McNally Barshaw truly understands how to inspire children and adults of all ages. Ruth's blend of actively sketching and showing her drawings while telling her "history" keeps the audience engaged at all times. Her real life examples of her hard work and perseverance toward following her dream of becoming a writer and illustrator helped the children see how dreams can come true."

We're comfortable in front of large audiences as well as small.

Students enjoy our workshops -- we keep them engaged and
involved. When they leave they’re excited to keep working on
the story we developed together, and they have everything they
need to complete it alone or in the classroom. One teacher was amazed that her fourth graders stayed interested and actively
listening for 90 minutes -- on the last day before spring break!
